How do we get citizens' voices into new technology?

Masterclass: Moral Design & Technology

After a successful first masterclass on 8 July 2024, which focused on generative AI, we would like to invite you to a second inspiring masterclass organised by Fontys ICT i.c.w. SPARC.

In this master class, you will learn why asking ethical questions about technology is crucial, and why we often only ask these questions after the fact. Bart Wernaart, professor of Moral Design Strategy, gives insight into how technology sometimes ‘happens to us’ and why this needs to change.

You will learn how we can develop technology together by taking fundamentally different approaches in technology policy, product design and the use of technology. Bart gives concrete examples and offers strategies to implement these changes. At the end of the master class, you will have a clear picture of the steps needed to develop and allocate technology in a responsible and inclusive way.

Bart Wernaart is professor of Moral Design Strategy at Fontys University of Applied Sciences. He is also a member of the ethics committee Brainport Smart District and the Municipality of Eindhoven. In 2022, he won the first Melanie Peters Prize, awarded by the Rathenau Institute. He publishes nationally and internationally on issues at the intersection of ethics, technology and human rights.
